Big Hairy Monkey Studios

Anchor 1

Big Hairy Monkey Studios was created in 2017 by Kelly Powers. The name comes from Kelly's love of King Kong movies, although it was almost deemed OCD Comics because of Melanie Powers' habit of organizing books during shows. BHMS began with Kelly's artwork, but soon branched out to include comic books and toys. Its mission is to bring 600 pounds of bagged, boarded, and organized entertainment to comic lovers from Milwaukee, WI to Knoxville, TN aboard the Muncie Rocket.

Kelly Powers

Shortly after the US release of the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Tell City Memorial Hospital released its own bundle of joy, Kelly Powers, on August 22nd, 1967. Kelly is the creator of Big Hairy Monkey Studios, an artist, and the author of an upcoming comic titled The Almighty. His mission is to “bring off the wall comics, ideas, and comic knowledge to all ages.” Kelly graduated from the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, NJ in 1990. Most of his previous works have been commissions. You can view some examples of Kelly's work under the Portfolio tab.

Melanie Powers

Melanie Powers was created in the Blizzard of '78 and debuted September 8th, 1978 in Evansville, IN. By day she poses as an innocent housekeeper and Kelly's assistant, but she moonlights as the super villain “Mesmerize”. Her mission is to take over Kelly's work-space using her crafty glitter-bombs and power crystals. Melanie's accomplices include: three minions, three hell-hounds, three kitty comic box guardians, three bad bunnies, and one grouchy guinea pig.
